Stupid question: my teacher said the sixth bond is initially with a H2O molecule. Is it because in that position it is exposed to an aqueous environment and therefore tends to bind the water molecule or is there another more specific (and correct) reason? Thank you for your videos, always extremely helpful! :)

For the homolytic bond cleavage of the oxygen molecule, I am a little confused. What exactly is setting off the homolytic cleavage in the first place? I get that one electron from the O-O double bond goes to one O atom, and the other electron to the other O atom. And I understand that Fe II donates an electron to one of the oxygens. But why does this cleavage of one of the molecular oxygen bonds happen? Any explanation would be immensely helpful! Thank you!
