Interesting that the documentary omits the battle of Puketutu, the first clash between red coats and Heke's men, where the red coats display their formidability in open combat and convince Maori commanders to use fortifications instead of open confrontations. The battle of Te Ahuahu is also missing, where Heke's forces are defeated by Kupapa. The documentary also doesn't mention the heavier losses sustained by Heke's forces during his strategic blunder at Ruapekapeka.
I was hoping a modern retelling of the New Zealand wars would be a little more balanced.

I was born and bred in England,at school we were taught how great the British empire was and shown that a large part of the world was coloured pink to denote this .We were not told about all the death and destruction that occurred to achieve this in the name of Queen Victoria and todays royalty are still reaping the benefits all these years later.I spent nearly ten years in the south island and always found the Maori people to be a proud and decent people.I am not proud of my countries brutality in New Zealand,Australia,India,Africa and many other parts of the world and send my love to all the victims of my countries past evil deeds.
