I remember years ago after my mom died, I was going through severe depression. I had a job working at a bank and I remember I would sit in my car on my lunch breaks and cry and cry and cry. I needed a serious break from life. So I worked a bunch of overtime at my job, saved up as much money as I could. I went on Amazon and purchased a bunch of camping gear. I bought a plane ticket to Puerto Rico and camped on the Island of Vieques for 7 days. When I arrived at the Island, I had been traveling allllll day with luggage. And by the time I got to the campground, it was pouring rain and it was dark outside. Mind you, I never camped a day in my life. And by the grace of God, a security guard working that night helped me set my tent up. I stripped all my clothes off and put on my bathing suit. I fell asleep in my tent and I remember opening my eyes the next morning inside my tent, and I could hear the waves crashing. And all I could think of was āOmgā¦.what have I doneā¦.what have I done.ā. But once the terror went away, I never felt so free and happy in my entire life. And to this day, I have gotten to travel to so many different countries.
God calls us to be brave. And to whom much is given, much is required. Whatever you do in faith, God will honor it.

Saw it a few weeks ago and absolutely loved it! Normally Im not a huge fan of Witherspoon, but she did a really great job and delivered the story perfectly. Of course it reminds us of into the wild, but why shouldn't this story be told? People do amazing stuff to overcome their fears and so did Cheryl - so go people and watch this film :)Ā

Nothing touches Into The Wild... but this was pretty damn great and I'm just happy to see more stories told like this, no matter how similar. It's important. Our society is aching for release and sometimes the only escapism for me (and many) is witnessing these brave souls. The fear in us all keeps us from acting upon instinct as these beautiful creatures have broken free from the "false security" that binds us, the monotony, the cloistered sadness of four walls and media obsession which is just blinding and mind-numbing. Anyway I'll end my rant I'm just speaking into the void here, but maybe someone's listening and nodding to these words. Just to note, another film coming out called "Tracks" about a young woman who trekked across the Australian outback. Look forward to both. We need to watch a woman go "into the wild" this time...

Wonderful film.
Reese Whitherspoon acted brilliantly.
Saw her in many films. Here, she's again
someone completely different. She could
turn into anyone.
This film was suggested to me on criteria as
the best film about hiking.
When it is about hiking, then it's not at all.
This is not a warm film. It has, as real life has,
the warm moments, and those not so warm.
Film if based on true story, so watch the end titles,
there's photos of real Cheryl Strayed, the main character.
Strayed...what a symbolic last name.
Highly recomented by me.

This movie directly inspired me to finally end my loveless marriage and quit my dead-end job in order to attempt a thru hike on the Appalachian Trail. Of course, things never work out the way you think they will or plan for ... but the long and short of it is: This film changed my life in some very fundamental ways..... and that's the highest praise I can give to any work of art.
