This is a cool track, but it reminds me of the one live performance I saw of Joe Farrell at Keystone Korner, which didn't go so well. Super loud, multiple hecklers, JF repeatedly bumping into his mike. We are all human and I suspect JF was maybe a little "too high" on that occasion. He'll always be one of my favorite saxophonists, though. So many great recordings!

This is one of the coolest jazz/fusion tracks ever recorded. The epic solos of Joe Farrell and Herbie Hancock still bring a smile to my face each time I hear it (and I have known this for 50 years). For a long time I did actually not know who actually played this and what the titile was, as I recorded this to a (mono) tape from a radio program without any reference to the artist and title. Only more than 20 years later I bought by coincidence a second hand LP by Freddie Hubbard which also has a version of 'Too High' on it. So at least I knew now the title and that it was a cover of a Stevie Wonder song. It took me then another 20 years until I came across this Joe Farrell track by accident on Youtube, and I bought a second hand vinyl LP of the Penny Arcade album on Discogs straight away (the title track of the album, which I had also recorded all these years ago, is also very good (with a similar feel to it).) I think Stevie Wonder will forgive me, but for me this is the original 'Too HIgh' (it has indeed not a lot in common anymore with his song)
