I was working at Activision as a QA tester the day ATVI bought Blizzard. They insisted in telling us (like everyone else) "Activision will not touch Blizzard culture and not involve in their ways of working, they remain independent in making their games". Not ONE person believed that speech. At the time they were already milking Guitar hero and CoD like crazy. What a sad loss for video games.

Designer's options:
A) Sugarcoat it
B) Ignore it as you've left
C) Be honest about the situation
D) Take the time to be absolutely savage and brutalize any semblance of that flickering hope anyone has and slap people with the reality check that everything you loved about the company is gone, the old guard that you grew up with is gone and that you should probably stop asking any sort of affiliate with the company if Blizzard is ever going to make a comeback or return to form.

So sad. Blizzard was one of the best dev companies out there. Even the management played their games. The devs definitely played the games. The story writers played the games. They wanted to make amazing games because they wanted to play their amazing games. They also had some of the best costumer service in the industry; in WoW a real person would teleport in front of you and solve your issue while RPing their GM powers as "magic", then tell a funny joke or something and teleport away.

The writing was on the wall back in 2008 when Activision acquired Blizzard. It's just so evidently apparent now that no one can argue that it's nothing more than a corporate greed monster. It's nice to hear it straight from his mouth, he really puts himself out there saying something like that against a former employer. And you can tell he once cared deeply for the company from the sounds of it. Not really a shocker but it's sad to hear it from him.

He's so right about nostalgia. Games like Diablo II, Warcraft 3 ROC & TFT, Starcraft I and Wow til 2009 were the games where I found the most joy in my life. Even when they release the first Starcraft II it felt so good, but after that everything started to sink. Just enjoy the vanilla memories I guess

Having never played a blizzard game during its "glory days," it sucks to hear how people still have hope for it. Nostalgia really is the only thing keeping them alive
