It was a good thing you managed to save the pigeon. I envy your fitness state :)) I lost a pigeon to the hawk because before I even reached them, the hawk carried my bird over the river and there was nothing I could do from the other side. This makes me think I shuld do more jogging and sprinting to be prepared for it :))

Once a sparrow hawk entered my loft when it was open and I was cleaning. Hawk sat its talons right on a nest bowl with youngsters in it. The father pigeon wing slapped it. The wing slap hit the hawk right on spot and the hawk fell out of the nest box. It happened in under a second and I was proud of my bird he saved the day. Then I kicked the hawk out of the loft.
This hawk loves to eat lizards, bats and squirrels too as I've seen it going after them

Accipiter Nissus is the most annoying bird of prey from all the 3 species that attack pigeons. Not only it can't carry away pigeons and can eat them only if they aren't discovered, but they are extremely bold. It is normal to see them often on the loft while the stressed pigeons are hitting the walls. What happened this time? The sparrowhawk did an ambush attack near me right when the flock was flying towards the fence. I closed by eyes but fortunately only one pigeon hit the fence (this one also had a falcon wound but was recovered). The hawk then went in the nearby tree and was watching - it doesn't really care about me, unlike the goshawk or falcon. The dizzy pigeon with a swollen eye and chest flew away from the fence towards the forest (yeah,THAT stupid!). The hawk immediately went after it but I didn't see what happened. My friends (crows and magpies) announced me that the hawk got the pigeon so I ran after them because it had a chance with that little sparrowhawk. Running is healthy for you! 😆
