This has such a powerful message. Climbing something so unsteady while saying "My love is mine all mine" is saying how unsteady the climb is to reaching your own self-love and respect. How it's easy to fall back down to the bottom and restart. Once you fall too many times you may give up. Of course, Mitski just sends out absolute bangers every time.

The idea to climb up all the chairs is amazing. The way i interpret it is, sitting down on a chair is easy. Everyone can sit. But not her. She has to climb up all the most differently chairs just so she can finally be seen. But still, her love is all hers. No one sees it, no one appreciates it. Its so do creative. At least thats how i would understand it.

the egg shows the fragile heartbreak - the love you hold for someone else or yourself shattering. the egg is the foundation, the base for the work it takes (aka the chairs, which you also resent) to feel love again, whether it’s for yourself or someone else. when you feel a love so powerful it’s easy for it to become overwhelming, like youre drowning in it. but the work you put in (stacking the chairs) only builds the hope that you return to a state like before (the sound of waves and eagles showing serenity at the beginning and end) love is work, but it’s also yours.

This is the song I use for my son’s lullaby. I played it on repeat when I was pregnant cause it reminded me of how much I love him and he loved when I played it for him when he was a newborn now he’s 3 months old and it never fails to make him drift off to sleep 💛
