Dainava in Kaunas is one of the oldest (and the biggest) of the Soviet “sleeping” areas (the areas where many people spend their evenings and nights), parts of which are at the very outskirts of the city.
Laisvės alėja is good for shop-lifting, and for thefts (especially when its crowded on certain days with events for crowds).
Kaunas is twice smaller than Vilnius by the numbers of inhabitants.

I have a friend from US, and we were walking one late evening in Vilnius, and she kept looking behind, and me being a local, I felt absolutely safe. I said "Relax, there is nothing there".
That being said, as much as it is safe here in comparison to other western Europe cities, don't be careless here.

@LithuaniaExplained not all cases are registered straight away because of backlogged paperwork (like you mentioned already), because the website's database isn't directly connected to the police systems and because of privacy reasons regarding victims. Also certain crimes are logged later on the website when the authorities discover crimes at a later date as the used dates are a careful algorithm of both reporting moments and with certain investigations when they actually took place. For example a murder can be logged first at 2023, but if later is determined the victim died early then date can be changed to another date like in the year 2022 (even if the murder was reported in 2023).

In terms of personal safety Lithuania is pretty good. I would say among the better countries in the EU in that sense. You're unlikely to get robbed, assaulted or otherwise attacked in a public place. Most violent crimes like homicides take place within private households, and mainly due to excessive alcohol consumption in localized "parties" which is still a problem in Lithuania among certain parts of the population. Also, bicycles will get stolen if they're worth anything more than ~300 Eur, and certain car brands are at risk of getting stolen, for example expensive new BMWs. Generally Lithuania feels and is pretty safe and there are no "no-go zones", compared to some cities in Western part of Europe. There is one country which is safer and really stands out in the EU and quite possibly the whole world though, and is not far from Lithuania: Poland. I can't imagine a safer and more welcoming place than Poland. I do like safe countries and safe cities and this part of Europe seems to be doing pretty well.

One of the most shit parts of Vilnius is near the train station 100%. While walking on the sidewalk you are almost guaranteed to see siringes and stuff like that laying around. It's one of those parts that you would not want to go often. t's still very safe but just keep in mind if you are ever in Vilnius.

The most likely crime to fall pray to while in Lithuania is to have your heart stollen by those beautiful locals of both genders
