I am friends with all of my long term relationship ex's. I'm very lucky everyone of those relationships just ran thier course and we both knew it was better to be apart. No person I know has been as lucky as me just ugly breakups and miserable. I spent no less than 3 years with any of them and I had 23 amazing years with my husband. That's the person who's beautiful green eyes I miss so much. I lost him 6 months ago unexpectedly and I don't regret 1 single day of our time together. I spoke to him on the phone not 12 hours before last words were I love you to each other. Sometimes your story together is not over. There are still chapters to be written.

I never stayed friends after a break-up of a long term relationship. It hurts too much to feel all the memories and emotions. You go between drowning in tears, burning with rage, and being windswept by romantic notions that can't be grounded in anything. You have to cut it off and let it go, and wish them the best, as Lewis says. ❤
