A seven-part BBC science fiction serial by Victor Pemberton.
A earthquake opens up a huge fissure in the new town of Redlow in Kent. Then a mysterious mud begins to ooze out, and animals and birds begin to mysteriously die. On the instructions of the dominating Minister of Parliament Hugh Deverill, seismologist Josef Gomez is called in to examine the continuing earth tremors. But the effects of the oozing mud are having a strange effect on people, and Professor Gomez and his team's findings begin to reveal a terrifying fact ... that there is a lethal intelligence in the mud itself and if not stopped the human race may be in danger of extermination!

Roger Delgado. One of the most under rated actors who left us too soon. For those of you newbies Delgado was the original Dr. Who Master and by far the best. See him in The Sea Devils - The best Master and the Best Doctor - Jon Pertwee followed by Tom Baker he of the beautiful baritone voice and never-ending scarf.

There is a British movie version of this called “X The Unknown”. I enjoyed it as well.

I was disappointed. The acting, I found was overwrought, campy even. I struggled with this one, but again thanks for the experience of this listen.

I enjoyed it, except for the fact that a kid with high school chemistry would laugh at this today, which tells us that this was aimed at an audience with little scientific knowledge.
Also, today this would have attracted the best brains in the world within 48 hours.
