Sex-Linked and autosexed chicken breeds can be very handy for making sure you don't raise too many roosters. But they aren't the same thing...and they both have advantages. Steve & Brian explain what each means, and why they can be a significant part of your flock.

Last year we hatched some of our cream legbar eggs and were 100% accurate on identifying male/female chicks on hatch day. We really enjoy this breed’s temperament and recommend cream legbars for beginners - even the roosters we have are quite friendly.

We hatched out 15 eggs from my cousins flock. She had Barred Rock, Light Sussex and Buff Orpingtons. We ended up with 7 Barred Rock roosters and one Light Sussex rooster. The rest were hens. Yeah, the Barred Rock are going to freezer camp this weekend. They are just over a year old. Thank you for the video!

A couple of years ago we purchased five Dominique's. We wanted one rooster, however, the guy we bought them from made an error and all five turned out to be hens. I was happy, it could have been five Roo's. 😯

Thanks guys, just learning all abt our friends the chickens. We all are living troubled times so it’s best to be self sufficient as much as we can.

Last year I bought 25 meat birds of which 8 turned out to be roosters. Guess which ones were processed first; if you guessed the roosters, you are correct. It wasn't the crowing as much as the fighting that helped me decide their fate earlier. As meat birds, they worked out great and most of the 25 are now resting comfortably in the freezer. This was a terrific video! I always learn something helpful from you gentlemen.

Again! T-shirts. Hahahaha. I have a red sex-linked in my flock. She is so low maintenance and extremely friendly. Great with the grandkids.
