my cat died today. he was the first cat i ever had to live an entire lifetime. moments after i just couldn’t stand to see another cat in my timeline and even anywhere. it’s devastating though it can’t be helped, it’s not like there’s still something i can do so i just cried away in silence. It’s funny how nobody ever seems to talk about what this song is actually about: what we’re told to strive for and the life we’re shown as an ideal will ultimately solve nothing because it’s completely superficial. The narrator has achieved everything he was supposed to, and has only destroyed himself in the process and found no peace at all. The American Dream, if you want to look at it that way, is a lie. Like the entire album, it’s an attack on modern soulless neoliberal capitalism; it’s not just a sad song.
