It seems like wherever you go shopping that many of the stores are closing down today. I went to the Beverly Center on La Cienega Blvd. to find out if the mall is dead I remember this mall being really popular about 20 years ago I have not step foot in the mall since over 15 years so I wanted to find out myself if it’s still worth it to go there

I'm old now... I remember shopping in the malls for the family. I miss those days when I had money. I live paycheck to paycheck now. Inflation is horrific.

Thankfully we older people have memories of better days. I feel sorry for the young people.

Michael Jackson used to shop here regularly by himself without bodyguards. Sometimes in disguise, Sometimes not. I LOVED this mall.

Beverly Center died with the arrival of The Grove. Even remodeling the place didn't bring flocks of people back. It's so empty these days, I'm shocked its not shut down. When Beverly Center got rid of the movie theater for Forever 21 retail store, that signaled the beginning of the end.

I'm so old that I remember when that piece of property was Beverly Park with pony rides and other fun stuff for kids.

A lot of people are trying to pay the rent and buy food - the mall is a luxury many can't afford... Cheers Mike!

The Beverly Center was never a very busy mall like Century City or Westside Pavillion malls, not even during the 80s/90s. Their appeal has always been more to high end shoppers and not the hang-out crowd. It aligns itself with Rodeo Drive more than a typical family mall.

When I moved here in 1981, I would visit all the malls in the Los Angeles area a lot. I love the echo atmosphere and the energy of malls. I hope that experience never goes away, we need to support them so that doesn't happen. This brings back good memories. Thanks for GiVing ! 👍👍

It's definitely on life support. I went in there a couple of weeks ago to go to the food court on the top level. Then I discovered the food court is no longer there, which used to be packed with shoppers having a bite to eat. Not only that, but there were so few shoppers in there, I couldn't believe the place is still open. Maybe they should tear it down, and bring back the old kiddie amusement park that used to be there when I was a kid.

Sadly, except for a handful that are still surviving, enclosed malls are on the endangered list. Many have already closed, while others are becoming ghost towns with empty stores throughout. I was the store manager of Taco Bell on Beverly Blvd just down the street from Beverly Center in 1979/1980, before the mall even opened. It was quite exciting when it did open, and it was THE place to go in the area. It was a different time. Now, people seem to prefer outdoor shopping and dining destinations, at least here in sunny California.

It’s not just malls there that are dying off, they are dying off everywhere. 😢

I once saw a sketch of that intersection, Beverly and San Vicente from the year 1940. It showed a billboard advertising Whisky, and, get this: an oil derrick! This oil well is still pumping oil and is hidden below the mall. The book containing the drawing, "Nuestra Pueblo" copywrite 1940.

This mall was so awesome in the 90s. Hard Rock Cafe and PF Chang’s were on the street level. It’s still nice in there but it’s at 60% occupancy.
