For this video, I modified the Ominus slightly to test how changing the orientation of the antenna would affect the control range.
Since I fly with the 808 #16 on the bottom of the Ominus, it is always between my transmitter and the antenna. I drilled a small hole in the top center of the Ominus' nose and routed the antenna up through there to expose it above the body.
The first part of the video is flown with the antenna vertically UP out of the body. This configuration lead to less control range than even the stock configuration. I lost control of the Ominus after 17s of full-throttle vertical flight.
The second part of the video is flown with the antenna vertically DOWN out of the body. The antenna exits the body near the camera, by the front of the battery tray. I still had control of the Ominus after 31s of full-throttle vertical flight, but chose to go into a dive as the Ominus was getting difficult to see.
In this configuration, control distance appears to be much greater than stock, and certainly much greater than vertically UP.
I am looking into other ways to increase the control distance without harming the RX or TX.
