It took me years to realize that "808 State" was named after the TR-808 drum machine. The name of this particular song, "Pacific State", always made me think the band name referred to the State of Hawaii, whose area code is 808....and "808 State" was like a Hawaii state of mind (i.e. sun, ocean, surfing, chilling, etc.). I over-analyzed like I always do!

Even people who weren't into rave music felt this song. It's one of those songs which emotionally makes you feel like your visiting different worlds. If you were in the rave scene back then, it was truly surreal, I mean gigantic. Forget the likes of Glastonbury, that is nothing compared to the rave scene back in the day.
