I love this song because, not only is it a story, but it's also a warning. You can spend your whole life working a job, building an empire, making loads of money, but in the end, that won't matter. You'll still inevitably pass away, having not spent any time with your family, with loads of money in your dusty maggot-infested pockets. Live your lives to the fullest, spend as much time with your families as you can. Money is important but family always comes first.

This song is really beautiful and painful for me, it perfectly captures my relationship with my father. He is so focused on his work, making, and saving money when we don't need the extra dollar anymore. He's missed out on a lot of my childhood and its too late to make up for it now, I'm 18 and about to move out for college. I really miss the childhood that could have been.

First heard this song at my job and I disregarded it as just another generic pop song they would play on loop until we all got sick of it. Sundays for us are super slow and I'm standing there with little to nothing to do the place is dead, and this song comes on and for the first time I could really listen to it and I heard the bass and thought "hey, that's catchy!" And then I asked my phone the name of the song to look it up and I googled the lyrics and holy hell I felt those lyrics. Long story short, I'm a typical grunge, and metalhead guy but for whatever reason this song really hit home hard. Well done.

LYRICS:
He was born the fall of '58
Made a fortune selling real estate
Golden lions waited at the gate
He was lonely, but it all looked great
Never made time for the family
But he is the richest man in the cemetery
Only made time for the company
But he is the richest man in the cemetery
He is the richest man in the cemetery
But he is the richest man in the cemetery
Cut from diamonds, but he came from dust
Built a kingdom out of salt and blood
Owned a city, never saw the streets
Or the people that he'd never meet
Warm blood, cold heart
Yeah, he's all alone
He had it all, but it couldn't buy love
Yeah, he died alone
Never made time for the family
But he is the richest man in the cemetery
Only made time for the company
But he is the richest man in the cemetery
He is the richest man in the cemetery
But he is the richest man in the cemetery
Never made time for the family
But he is the richest man in the cemetery
Only made time for the company
But he is the richest man in the cemetery
He is the richest man in the cemetery
But he is the richest man in the cemetery

The meaning I get from this song is that: theres this man that he worked and worked to get money and never spent time with his family, he eventually became so rich he built a âkingdomâ and he eventually died alone since he basically abandoned his family and worked himself to death. âHe is the richest man in the cemetery.â Granted this is only a theory and not confirmed. This is also what I GET out of this
