I really enjoy the meaning I’ve interpreted from this song. She seems to want help and comfort but is too nervous to explicitly ask for it or say that she needs it, so she emphasizes the “only if you want to” because she doesn’t want to be a burden on the person she’s talking to. I’m physically disabled and sometimes I’m very very nervous to ask for help when I need it so most of the time when I ask for it I’ll start the sentence with “do you think you could...” or “if it doesn’t bother you too much could you...” they almost always say yes but I’m always worried about being a burden.
