This below is how I think the RE3 Remake could have reimagined the Drain Deimos, in a way that gives them heightened body horror, while also staying more faithful to the original RE3’s portrayal: 1.) Rather than mutated fleas, I would establish the Drain Deimos as a fictional species of Reduviid insect (like predatory assassin bugs and parasitic kissing bugs), that is indigenous to the Arklay region. 2.) Rather than merely sucking blood, the Drain Deimos uses a rostrum, which injects digestive juices into its prey and sucks the liquified insides back up like a straw, leaving behind a hollowed husk. 3.) The species is also sexually dimorphic, with the mothers preferring to inject neurotoxin into their prey and let their young attach to the paralyzed victim, rather than outright killing them. 4.) During gameplay, the male’s bite would inflict greater raw damage, while the females can poison players with their bites and sometimes release hostile offspring upon death. 5.) This would also translate to the Drain Deimos having two different death animations, depending on whether the player is fatally grabbed by a male or female (and the female’s killing animation could provide similar body horror imagery, without Jill being “deep-throated”). 6.) The Drain Deimos would appear throughout the campaign and act as a more medium-sized enemy, rather than a miniaturized cannon-fodder gimmick enemy that only appears once. 7.) Finally, the Brain Sucker could be brought back and repurposed as a boss, akin to Black Tiger, Giga Bite, etc. This would allow the RE3 Remake to have another boss creature, besides Nemesis and the Gravedigger(s), and the Brain Sucker’s original role would be taken by the proposed female Drain Deimos.
