Prolactin is a hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary gland. It aids in lactation (breastfeeding) by stimulating the production of milk from the mammary glands in the breast…In addition to prolactin, other hormones that affect the mammary glands include estrogen (increase size and fat deposition), progesterone (to make the acini/ alveoli), and oxytocin (for milk ejection or let down). Prolactin uses the JAK-STAT pathway of cell signaling (biosignaling).
