Milunka SaviÄĀ was a Serbian warĀ heroineĀ who fought in theĀ Balkan WarsĀ and inĀ World War I. She is the most-decorated female combatant in the recorded history of warfare. In 1912, her brother received call-up papers forĀ mobilizationĀ for theĀ First Balkan War. She chose to go in his placeācutting her hair and donning men's clothes and joining theĀ Serbian army. She quickly saw combat and received her first medal and was promoted toĀ corporalĀ in theĀ Battle of Bregalnica. Engaged in battle, she sustained wounds and it was only then, when recovering from her injuries in hospital, that her true sex was revealed, much to the surprise of the attending physicians. Savic was called before her commanding officer. They didn't want to punish her, because she had proven a valuable and highly competent soldier. The military deployment that had resulted in her sex being revealed had been her tenth. But neither was it suitable for a young woman to be in combat. She was offered a transfer to theĀ NursingĀ division. Savic stood at attention and insisted she only wanted to fight for her country as a combatant. The officer said he'd think it over and give her his answer the next day. Still standing at attention, Savic responded, "I will wait." It is said he only made her stand an hour before agreeing to send her back to theĀ infantry. In 1914, in the early days ofĀ World War I, SaviÄ was awarded her firstĀ KaraÄorÄe Star with SwordsĀ after theĀ Battle of Kolubara. She received her secondĀ KaraÄorÄe StarĀ (with Swords) after theĀ Battle of the Crna BendĀ in 1916 when she captured 23Ā BulgarianĀ soldiers single-handedly. She was awarded the FrenchĀ LĆ©gion dāHonneurĀ (Legion of Honour) twice, as well as theĀ RussianĀ Cross of St. George, theĀ British medal of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael, and the SerbianĀ MiloÅ” ObiliÄĀ medal.Ā She was the sole female recipient of the FrenchĀ Croix de GuerreĀ 1914ā1918 with the gold palm attribute for service in World War I.

read some about Milunka Savic.
after the war she became a poor cleaning lady for the rest of her life. she was also forgotten by most historians in her lifetime. only after her death she started to get the respect she earned.
sad. but as poor as she was, she did put through school more than 20 children, so it cant be too bad. she really had a philanthropic heart.

As a Serb, i am honestly thankful that you made the song about our hero, Milunka. Thank you Sabaton, for being as amazing as you are, and letting the world know of lesser talked stories and lesser known people in history.

Edit: People, please stop the hate in the comments and enjoy the music, past is past, and we are living now in the present to enjoy good music, not to spread hate.

So... she's a real-life, Eastern-European, badass modern Mulan?
How is this the first time I've heard about her? What the hell?!
Mad respect to Sabaton for once again educating the public about the important parts of history that modern schools somehow "conveniently" leave out.
RIP Milunka SaviÄ - You deserve more recognition than you got, and I hope someday in the future your name will become as well-known as the likes of Simo HƤyhƤ or Vladimir Vazov.
