This is a video of me marching in the I-6 position with The Ohio State University Marching Band on October 6th, 2018 against Indiana University. Since I am assistant squad leader, I normally lead out the band in the I-1 position. However, this time the head squad leader and I decided to switch positions. This is a true representation of what it is like to be on the field for the ramp entrance, and the incomparable Script Ohio. A special thank you to Emily Dean and the Big Ten Network for allowing me to use their GoPro!

It’s the fact that I NEVER saw any of them out of step. That is the most impressive part.

The vocal callouts are what have my attention. I marched through high school, and would have marched in uni if I went through with it. That there is the difference between a band that’s “good for their age” and one that’s genuinely amazing. The coordination and confidence is unmatched. So many kids are afraid to vocalize on the field when they start out. Hearing all the little time keepers like the step, kick, kneel or even a simple audible countdown is so refreshing. It keeps not only the caller in time, but the whole group on the same page. Like the call of whistle at the very start, calling the whole band to attention and starting the pace at the same time… it’s such a little detail that needs more appreciation. Also damn those turns are sharp. Every one is so clean and snappy and just brilliantly executed.

For those who aren't in highschool yet but still in band. NEVER QUIT BAND don't give up. It's so worth it in highschool. Im in my sophomore year and I'm in band and I never thought I could say this but I'm in love with marching band it's one of the things that make me the happiest and I'm sad I didn't get the a real season last year.

Old drummer here. It's been 15 years since I've felt goosebumps for the reasons only those who've taken to the field in a matching band like this know well. I caught myself keeping time and counting steps multiple times. Thank you for the buzz and high.

Having been a "Band Dad" for the past 17 years with the American Fork Marching Band, in American Fork UT, I can say that this is the culmination of of years of hard work. Great job! (BTW, we put 5 children through the AFHS Marching Band and 3 children through BYU Marching Band) Countless hours of practice, countless oboe reeds, etc. God Bless!

Watching this makes me want to go to Ohio State just to attempt to try out for the band after my military contract is up. I have watched this like 100 times and still get blown away by just how precise everyone is, and how such a large band manages to stay perfectly in step and keep the same tempo
