Just found your channel a week ago and I love it. Binge watched everything lol. Early civilization is fascinating because it collapsed and forgotten to time.

I really appreciate your channel. The content is very interesting, delivered in an engaging way, and you list your sources. And it's short, not like a long-drawn-out, dry lecture by some boring academic that has to be endured to get a kernel of information.

Actually nobody really knows what the city was called. When somebody asks;"What is this place?", the answer is usually; "Ur...." There's a city the next valley over known as 'Um...." And just down the river is 'Uhh...."

I'm so fascinated by Mesopotamia if the damn place wasn't so dangerous I'd spend the rest of my life digging in the sands.......they should rebuild/restore these sites.....can you imagine if they rebuilt the Hanging Gardens......they'd make container ship loads of cash from tourism......great vid as usual Cy......yes indeed.....thanks for the work and sharing

I've never really read about any hostility between Sumerians and Akkadian in the sense you portray it. See, the Sumerians were not a homogenous nation but rather city states in constant wars with each other. As far as I've understood it, it was not an ethnic struggle and they intermingled quite frequently. Some scholars even suggest that the princes of the Neo Sumerian period had Akkadian as their mother tongue and that Sumerian had ceased being a spoken language by then. As for the Sumerians themselves, one might ask why they must have come from somewhere? It's perfect plausible that they lived among other tribes of humans in the area before they settled down and began farming.
