It’s tough luck David wasn’t aware that Tai doesn’t like the addition of boats and birds even if they are part of a scene. What’s wrong with a postcard? Whatever will a painter do to appease him in the next episode?

It's easy to tell the finalists when you watch this, just pick the three worst ones and those are the winners (except modernists painting this time his was cool). But David and Kats were incredible (ESPECIALLY for plein air work) and I'm still shocked they lost to the others

Happy with the winner, not just from what she did in the time given but her original is amazing. I loved the textile piece from the submissions but she didn't really get there and it's clear that was due to time constraints. Also... this is season 9, you'd think we would all know by now the judges hate boats n' birds!

I can almost always predict what the judges will choose. And it’s not that I know much about art. It’s predictability based upon what the critics say during the episodes and what is highlighted, I believe. Oh no! Am I becoming an actual critic!? I did choose Christina. I did love it. Wow.

I hope he doesnt stop painting birds in his landscapes. the whole birds are cliche thing is so silly to me. they are part of the character of the place. they sell the coast, the wind, the height, the scale. i like how he rendered the birds above the skyline dark to stand out against the light sky, backlit, while the ones down low were white to stand out against the castle/sea. Very cool thing to do with light, imho.

Yep, totally agree with the winner here. There was just something off with all the other paintings, except hers. Although I did like the mixed media one too, but it was a little tight. Love the winners painting though. Stunning.

Kat’s depiction was my favorite.. the judges really missed the mark here and went off of popularity.

It seems ridiculous to compete in the area of art. Each of the artists put forward a shard of perfection, none are to be put aside without a loss for us all. Just keep painting everyone!!!
