LYRICS: I was a dreamer when I was young lying on the grass, staring at the sky I never felt the time was moving on I thought it would stay the same for all my life playing games under Christmas lights when the world was warm and bright but that time just seemed to fly in the blinking of an eye I was a joker when i was in school smoking grass and laughing and getting high I never cared about nothing else I thought it would stay the same for all my life kissing girls on the summer nights when the world was big and bright but that time just passed me by in the blinking of an eye I left home at 17, tried to get into the music scene it wore me down like an old machine i learned how to work and forgot how to dream, oh, yeah I fell in love at 21, down in the grass getting lost in her wide eyes wouldn't have traded for anyone I thought it would stay the same for all my life but I was just too young to know I let her down and let her go that time taught me how to cry in the blinking of an eye in the blinking of an eye I hit the road at 23 stood in the grass singing songs for passers by foot-loose and fancy-free I thought it would stay the same for all my life oh and practice taught me how to preach I teach the world so out of reach and that time, it lived and died in the blinking of an eye It all changed at 29 my boat came in and the stars aligned I watched a simple song of mine travel the world in the blink of an eye (well deserved ❤) Now I'm here at 36 down in the grass, trying to make sense of it all maybe there's no easy fix the highest highs come with the hardest falls see the good times come and go like the people that you know and all you can do is try for its gone in the blink of an eye.
