To answer the question in the thumbnail, no, the Shambler does not have fur, and there of course was never any doubt regarding the matter. Adrian Carmack, John Romero, and now Sandy Petersen have confirmed this long known truth here: quakeone.com/forum/quake-talk/quake-central/150-wh… twitter.com/romero/status/1357826692891500546 twitter.com/SandyofCthulhu/status/1358586281580765… twitter.com/ScottApogee/status/1604604489738211329 The enhanced model in the new Quake release is confirmed by the head of Nightdive Studios as being not furry: twitter.com/pripyatbeast/status/142847684316270592… Ergo, any persons or entities who make the claim to the otherwise, namely that Quake's Shambler is "furry", "fuzzy", "fluffy", or some other similar descriptor, is to henceforth be declared a certified hack fraud by all means conceivable. #NotFur Everyone here in the comment section who proclaims that the Shambler does not have fur will receive the illustrious heart of honor as a sign of their impeccable knowledge and intelligence. However, anyone who claims the Shambler does have fur will instead receive the dreaded heart of shame to draw attention to their naive and boorish ways.

In canon, the Shambler is actually 2 vortigaunts wearing a trenchcoat.

Missed opportunity for Carmack to say "not fur", and Romero to say "fur" just to fan the flames harder.

In Quake Champions you can wear the shamblers head and it has fur, but you can also wield their arm and it doesn't. So it's in a superposition and is both at the same time.

The Shambler from Quake is based on the "dimensional shambler" creature from Lovecraftian lore. It does not have fur. Or any hair at all actually. It's skin is so pale that it looks white (because it's from a realm without light), and it's muscular as hell. Imagine a Doom 3 Hell Knight, but with white skin. Due to the low polygon models in Quake, the Shambler looks like it might have fur, but it doesn't. It's just a super muscular monster with white skin.

Well, I guess Civvie is dying on his hill that the shamblers are furry.

Ok can we all at least agree that they do NOT have feathers or scales?

Wait, people honestly thought they had fur? I always assumed they were just these big fleshy bags of grey

It never was a fur. I heard about that joke arguments and I always followed gameplay logic: Shambler have explosions resistance so there's no fur to burn, but vulnerable for nails and energy projectiles as uncovered and unprotected skin.
