Regardless of how critics rated this movie, I've never seen such beautiful cinematography in a film, EVER. Gore Verbinski is a genius, and this scene gave me chills. Not because of the eels, but because of the Barron's last words before he walks away.
Scroll down for philosophical rant:
Little philosophical rant, now: What if it's true? What if the whole consequence of governments, societies, families, etc. is just to make such a frenzy of commotion that we forget that there is no problem? What if there are no problems in the universe other than the ones we create? What if "problems" are put there so humans, i.e., apes, can make a "profit"? If there was no war, there would be no money-making off war. If there was no religion, there could be no priests getting rich off tithing. If there is no disease ... why do we try so hard for a cure? The takeaway from this scene is that everyone needs to look deep inside themselves and realize, "I am not sick. I was never sick. There is no need for a cure." This results in freedom.

The music featured in this scene (Beethovens 6th symphony 2nd mov) actually imitates the flowing water of a brook (the programmatic title is scene by the brook). At first I thought it was chosen because classical music=ritch people or it was just a light music over brutal scene joke, but it's actually a very fitting and clever choice, because it kinda makes you feel how the eels are flowing to his stomach in addition to the idillic vibe.

It’s not the eels but the way he casually held his nose and kept talking that made me shudder. Jason Isaacs was just perfect in this role!
