RIP Amy, such a beautiful sensitive artist who unfortunately had lots of mental health issues and got caught up in a weird drug scene in north London. She was from a Jewish very working class London family- her dad was a cab driver who used to play a lot of Sinatra and Billie Holliday to her. She went to a prestigious music school and was part of the national youth jazz orchestra. She was also a great guitarist. I met her briefly when we were neighbours in 2006. Really sweet down to earth person. When she passed I was heartbroken- I still am to this day.

Amy Winehouse is the perfect example of “you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone”. I liked her at the time, but the more time passes, the more I realise what an amazing artist she was.

I met Amy in a pub in Camden London, she was working in a pub, I was on a 2 day bender. She is completely different to how she was being painted at the time in every tabloid. An extremely nice cool genuine person.

Tony Bennett did a session with her. He said, "It's so sad she could've been as good as any of them, Billie, Sarah, Ella, etc"

Back to black is not about returning to using substances, in the UK black is worn when you lose someone you love, you're mourning their loss. The video even shows her at a funeral, wearing black.

Tony Bennett said she was the real deal of old jazz. She did a duet with him. Her idol.

In my opinion, Amy is the greatest British female singer ever. It's like she embodied the spirit of soul music.

Such and old soul voice in a mega talented but troubled young lady. I adore Amy. Her acoustic version of 'Valerie' is incredible. Such a loss to music. Her duets with Tony Bennett are awesome too.
