The Rodriguez childrenās film genre is so unique bc his children were a part of his processā¦ he wanted to make films that acknowledge and empower children, and if thatās the theme of the genreā¦ Iād say he killed it. He made Spy Kids for his kids, and he made āWe can be heroesā with his kids. Heās a good dude

it is very obvious the toy maker is conflicted, the multiple personalities are part of the game he made to help himself cope, (they aren't in his head) and him helping his enemies again and again when he literally has full control of the game is proof that he wants to be defeated and wants forgiveness

I have a story. Saw Spy Kids 1 in theatres with my family when I was 7. By pure coincidence, my mom was wearing the same dress that day as their mom wears in the movie. For the rest of the night, my mom was insisting she's a spy, "typing" on her makeup pallette, etc. and I didn't know whether to believe her or not lol.

Oh man, I always loved how deliberately campy and full of cheese these movies were. :) I could enjoy them, because it was very obvious that they were not taking themselves seriously at all. The big names in Hollywood probably agreed to be in it for some pure, low stakes fun. Like a vacation. :)
This movie was fun. It was one of those that you could enjoy, throwing yourself into a cool yet cheesy videogame world without coming away from it with an existential crisis. Seeing kids movies like that now is rare. That's what makes the Spy Kids movies a gem. A weird, fever dream gem.
