All the versions of this song are a cover. It's a hundred and fifty some odd years old. The meaning has changed and there are many renditions. Originally, it was about a black girl running North to run from her Master; they are both singing to each other. It was not My Girl, My Girl, it was Black Girl, Black Girl.

In the Pines SUDDENLY became my 4 year old granddaughter's favorite after seeing Nirvana do it. G'pa loves this guitar work!! Will play it to her next time she's here (tomorrow!)
