Hey Guys at DUMEO. Happy New Year. I would like to present a "weird" Thing with my DW Snare. I purchased a Used DW Design Series Nickel over Brass 14 X 6.5 Snare in 2021. It came with a Evans HD dry batter head, the standard Reso head and wires. It was Cranked and really liked the way it played, right out of the delivery box. I have a PDP concept Maple 6 drum kit also purchased Used in 2021 as upgrade to mu cheapo kit which i I gave to my 5 year old Grandson last year. I replaced the worn out DW batter head with the same - HD Dry a few weeks ago. I re-installed the Reso head and wires. I have been fooling with the tuning since. I can't get to that "Sweet Spot" of the delivered drum. FYI, I replaced the batter head on the Maple PDP 14 X 5.5 Snare as soon as I got it too. The other day, with some frustration, I put the DW snare atop my 16 Inch Floor Tom and put the PDP snare in the basket. Then during a playing session at home, as I went around on fill, I hit the DW snare - Bingo....I had that very sweet sound I was seeking - better than when it was delivered. It sounds like the Ludwick Supraphonic (Jon Bonham like sound). Take it off the Tom, and the sound is not as good. Put it back and Bingo. I have posted on many forums with the same query. Various Posters suggested what was occurring... Two drums are playing yielding that nice Crack with just the right amount of resonance (no over ringing). Another Kiddingly said that I may have discovered the new Snare Stand:):). I am going to change the batter head on the DW as another fellow suggested to a UV1 to see what happens. I loosened the clamps o the snare basket - no help. I would appreciate your advice and analysis.
As a 71 YO, retiree, I play my drums about 1 hour a day to My Music selections. I returned to drumming after 50 YEARS !! [1969]. I don't play Gigs (at least not yet, looking for a local Geriatric Jam Band just to play with others). Since retutrning to the circles of Drums and watching many Drumeo and other videos, I have come to learn so much of the nuances that I did not have a clue about back in 1967-69. Drum heads, Drum Tuning (an art in itself), Drum equipment and more were all foreign to me. THX for the Video and all the info !!

Happy Birthday to Zildjian! Hoping for at least another 400 years!!!
Here is some history (mostly from WikiPedia) The first Zildjian cymbals were created in 1618 by Avedis Zildjian, an Armenian metalsmith and alchemist. Like his father, who was also a metalsmith, he worked for the court of the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire (now Turkey) in Constantinople (Istanbul).
He made an alloy of tin, copper, and silver into a sheet of metal, which could make musical sounds without shattering. Sultan Mustafa I gave Avedis eighty gold pieces as a bequest, in addition to officially recognizing the surname Zilciyan or Zildjian, meaning "Son of a Cymbal Maker" or "Family of Cymbalsmiths" in Armenian (with Zil being Turkish for "cymbal", ci meaning "maker", and ian being the Armenian suffix meaning "son of").
In 1623 the Sultan granted him permission to leave the palace to start his own business in the Armenian sector of Constantinople, called Psamatia.
Zildjian's shop manufactured cymbals for the Mehter, Ottoman military bands consisting of wind and percussion instruments, which belonged to the Janissaries. These were similar to orchestral hand cymbals and bells/gongs in a variety of sizes.

Getting the kit to sound good takes patience and time. I found that the tuning app offered on Apple IPhone works great, but using a piano or electronic keyboard helps also to get the toms just right. Also, I have purchased on Amazon those silicone sticky pads to mute or take that little bit of ring out works perfectly. Tapping the drum head at every lug also gets that pitch pretty close to what you need. That’s my 2 cents. Cheers.

Jeff Woods is THE man!! Super nice guy and a great drum builder. I just got an outstanding snare from him, a gorgeous 13x6 maple/mahogany/birch in a crazy finish (he sent it to me while I was in New Orleans - now I'm back in Athens, Greece) and it just sings!! So, so inspiring... Thanks Jeff!!! 🙏🏻
