I still don't think that interview went as badly as people make it out to be. There were moments, but the entire interview wasn't as bad on the whole. I am an avid watcher of comedian's podcasts and Bill Burr is the exact same in all of them. He breaks balls, that's just how he is. He's not an overly serious guy, he likes giving people shit for the sake of giving people shit. I don't think he means it to come off as stand-offish or negative, at least that's how I understand and see it as. He's just jokingly being an asshole to fluster people, the failure here is that everyone including Ethan took his ball breaking too seriously instead of running with it.
37:29 you see it here even. Ethan openly laughed at Bill's response to Theo here. Bill has a formula and it works. He sounds serious, but he isn't a lot of the time. He does that for comedic value, no different than his standup routines.
