Chai Pani (चाय पानी) in Asheville, North Carolina, won the "America’s Most Outstanding Restaurant" title at the James Beard Foundation Awards. The James Beard awards are considered the Oscars of the food world in the US.

Asheville has a new Indian street food restaurant downtown - Dilbar. It's next to a new Indian restaurant - Mehfil. Asheville has gained three new Indian restaurants and an Indian grocery in the last 1.5 years. So nice to have all these choices.

I first had Indian around 20 something years old. It was someone’s birthday and they wanted Indian. We ordered some and I was very skeptical. Once I ate it I couldn’t believe the flavor. Was addicted for years. The thing is in the US Indian is pretty pricey compared to other food like Chinese but hands down one of my favorite cuisines.

Karl's last comment about how India can change you is so true. I've been lucky enough to have travelled to many parts of the world, and can honestly say that India had the biggest impact on me, in a very positive way. For example, when I first had a masala chai, I couldn't believe how tasty it was, and the complexity in flavours. All the tea I've been drinking all my life in the west has been water with a hint of tea.
I can't wait to go again this year!

Karl, you're absolutely right about India changing your life. I made my 1st trip there in 1999, and I 've been there a total of 5 times, most recently June of 2019. The food there is like no other place in the world, the people are amazing and the landscape is incredible!
