I'm 70 presently. I was a Fine art sculptor and Printmaker, in 1974. That was still during the "POP ART" era of art making. I incorporated Cadillac imagery in my silk screen prints and sculptures. I created an all foam rubber, 1953 Cadillac, that converted into a chair with an ottoman. It wasn't a full length Caddy. It was the front end, and grill, and front windshield, then it tapered back. The engine compartment and hood was removable and became the ottoman (or foot stool). You sat in the place where the engine would have been. It was constructed of 5 inch thick layers of foam rubber, cut precisely with a band saw, and glued together. It won awards and recognition for me, way back then.

My husband went to the original location in 1976 when he was 19 years old. They were complete including windshields. No spray paint. Watching you every week is something we share ❤

I remember going there in 6th grade on a field trip when we lived in White Deer, Texas for about a year. He used to buy a new one, drive it for a year, and plant them in the ground. The owner of the land was a millionaire who owned radio stations and was involved in oil. This is what our teacher said in 1977...so, what the story is? A mix of fact and fiction after all these decades. I'm 59 now and back then, they were new cars and no spray paint on any of them. We had a sack lunch, back on the school bus and back to White Deer, Tejas.......That's my story from being there in 6th grade. 1977

Cadillac, Cadillac! Long and dark, shiny and black! Open up your engines, let em' roar! Tearing up the highway like a big old dinosaur!

Maybe you could adopt one of those young cowboys, feed them, pet them and ride them home.

I was born in Amarillo in 1965 and visited the Cadillac Ranch in the late 70's and early 80's. There was no spray paint on them at the time, but vandals had kicked in the roofs on all of the cars. The Stanley Marsh story is creepy: He apparently hired a group of teen boys to go around town and place fake but amusing road signs. It was from among that group he found a few to prey upon.

My wife and I visited Cadillac Ranch in September 2020 on a road trip from Denver, CO to Dallas, TX, and back through Oklahoma, Kansas, and back to Denver. We were on a geocaching road trip to find some of the oldest in a few states. It was a fun road trip.

An easy way to remember "Stalactites vs Stalagmites". StalacTITES hang down from above and require a "tight" hold on the ceiling to keep from falling. StalagMITES are mighty and grow from the floor up.

We visited there in '75. There was not a LICK of graffiti. Revisiting more recently, every square inch was covered with spray paint. Parts and swatches of tire rubber had became souvenirs.

In the early 1980s the radio airwaves were constantly playing Bruce Springsteen's " Cadillac Ranch" along with "Born in the USA and The River" (which I loved listening to) and seeing that there really is a Cadillac Ranch is kind of cool, despite all the nasty pollution it has since created. Now as for being proposed to someday, with a beautiful "Cadillite" paint-chip engagement ring ,hand crafted in Amarillo ; that sure would be "fitting" serendipity. You have summed it all up (quite articulately) , as I too saw the "wonder in it all "and glad I did. Thanks for taking me there ; as I live on the other side of the planet and not too sure if I'll ever make it over to Texas, although it's now on my Bucket List and anything is possible..☮
