Maroon is my favorite song on the standard version of the album. Itâs so dark, edgy, gloomy, and ominous, but very romantic, dreamy, and mesmerizing! It just encapsulates and captivates me in a way I never thought possible and Iâm obsessed with how low the pitch goes from the first chorus to the second verse. Itâs probably my favorite part of the song!

I just realized something!! This is called Maroon because thatâs how she felt after this breakup - like sheâd been marooned. What a clever word artist! Tayâs creative writing paints pictures and makes you really think. She also makes you empathize with her because of her raw emotion and unabashed honesty. Truly, she is one of the greatest artists to emerge on the music scene in a really long time. Her vocal range, while not superb, is more than made up for by her ability to captivate. All songwriters should take a leaf from her book.

I am going to tell you why "Maroon" is one of the most genius song she's ever written.
She was able to say "red" six times without actually saying "red" for atleast once.
Burgundy, Wine, Scarlet, Maroon, Blood, and Rust are all shades of Red. In fact, she said "red" eight times if we're going to add "Rose and Ruby" from the 2nd verse.
This is how you play with words.

The "was" at 2:30 is the best thing to happen to music in many years. Thank you, Tay. You're the best.

Maroon is a color of course but itâs also a verb meaning to be isolated and lonely (as in being marooned on an island). I love how this song captures both meanings .
