The fourth single from 'Life Thru A Lens', and the first song that Robbie wrote with Guy Chambers. Released as a single at the beginning of December 1997, it spent twelve consecutive weeks on the UK Top 10 and peaked at No. 4. It has returned to the chart on numerous occasions in the intervening years, with streaming figures now in excess of 380 million.
A public vote for the 2005 BRIT Awards, where Robbie performed the song as a duet with Joss Stone, named 'Angels' the best song in the previous twenty-five years. In June 2018, his chosen duet partner was Taylor Swift, when the pair performed 'Angels' onstage at Wembley Stadium in London.
The promo video for 'Angels' was filmed at Staunton Sands, a beach on the North Devon Coast in England, and directed by Vaughan Arnell. Vaughan had directed videos for the Spice Girls and George Michael, and would work with Robbie again on multiple projects.

Hey Robbie ... geeze I hope you get this message. I was never a fan, and dont take that personally, says everything about me and not about you ... as it always does. I was away with the Angels let's say. Anyhoo, I just watched your doco and may I say how you have won me with your honesty, your self effacement, your transparency and your connection always, to the bigger picture whether you knew it or not. Now you do .! You staged your doco as the 'observer' from which we can all learn and are desperate for, beyond image with honesty and humility. This is the healing for us all ... not the celebrity more is more mask, but where we put ourselves with vulnerability and transparency into our work, and our world (which was both your gift and your curse coz you are that guy). Our moments of profound lostness, heartbreak, aloneness, pain and confusion, - where we 'hear' when we are hollow, those Angels loving us instead. So Robbie, you have set a standard in this doco for others to follow in the 'real', versus the 'robot' from which heals us all. Cheers and Big loves!
