The MTA ordered R179 cars to replace the aging R32's and R42's. Due to constant mechanical issues, these cars were pejoratively referred to as "lemons." The entire fleet was taken out of service in June 2020 after two in-service cars came unhitched and separated from each other on an uptown A train in lower Manhattan.
After extensive repairs, the R179's returned to service in September 2020. In this clip, the Z train is operating express from Marcy Avenue to Alabama Avenue. In part two, the journey continues to Sutphin Blvd.
