Childish Gambino’s “Redbone,” the second single off of his 'Awaken, My Love!' album, centers on the narrative of infidelity and paranoia. The track got a prominent placement in the opening moments of Jordan Peele’s record-breaking movie Get Out, too, leading to Platinum certification. Its instrumentation is a collaboration between Donald and Swedish composer and producer Ludwig Göransson; the two have frequently worked together since the 2010 'Culdesac' mixtape. He went to the studio not knowing what the two had in store that day.

Donald was like “i have a little drum bit, wanna hear it?” He was like “ooohh these 23 different guitars will go well with that”

He didn’t just show the project. He made it from scratch on set. 🙏🏼

With a name like Ludwig, you should know that he is an excellent composer.

How does it feel to know you’ve made the most trippiest beat of the century?

The word genius is overused by lots of producers who just mastered the equipment. This guy is a Beethoven-level music genius, equally comfortable doing R&B, hip-hop, and straight classical.

most important thing he said was “didn’t really know what was going to happen that day“

Sampling is not cheating, that's a whole different art in and of itself. Although this is pure talent, making such a nice beat takes special hands.

The first time I've seen a producer actually write down chords in one of theses videos

If Hans Zimmer does not have time he redirects the film producers to him. He now did Tenet because Hans did not have time. You know you are good if you get recommended by Hans. He also did Mandalorian, Black Panther, Creed and some more.

Such a beautiful track, I was surprised how many parts made up the song, because it all fits so well. That it just sounds so simple. But when you hear each part broken down you realize that you hear it all and nothing is lost in the mix. Amazing work

There’s not a single instrument he can’t play. He’s a true master of his craft.
