The problem with this format is that the ocean is unpredictable and comparing scores across 2 days is fruitless, unless you are in a wave pool. We saw some heats with barely any waves and any scores and some heats with decent scores. The commentators were saying things like, âhow do you compareâ. That is the problem. You cannot and you should not. Waves ridden need to be scored in the context of the heat. If the waves at the moment are 2 foot onshore, then whatever the competitors did that is amazing needs to be scored respectively and the same needs to be applied if itâs 8 foot and perfect.

For all you trashing Vans i'll break it down for ya.., WSL had to run the Pipe Masters in January, 2021. Remember?? They Couldn't run the event twice in one year, Billabong can't afford it anymore, So Vans stepped up...Like they always do. They do more for surfers and skaters than any other company, right beside Red Bull and Monster. Want to place blame? Call the Honolulu permit department, cause it always starts and ends with them... It sucks the way it went down, the the triple crown got trashed, I agree. But blaming Vans is like blaming mother nature for the shit condition this contest has been held in for the past 6 years....

The heritage of the pipe masters should outweigh the heritage of waffle sole shoe bottoms⌠if theyâre so âoff the wallâ why didnât they hold it there. The inaugural off the wall masters, and open up to any type of looney toon surfing. Soft tops, inflatables, costumes, teams, speedos, kick flips , all the antics Vans aspires to. And left the Pipe Masters as a prestigious eventâŚ.
