There was only one road out and that got backed up. One man said, at 8am they were told the brush fires were contained. At 1pm he returned from work smelling smoke, and within 30-40 min the sky was black and everything started to become ablaze. The Governor has assured us that fire safety will be vehemently taken into account in the rebuild of Lahaina. Keep in mind the winds were 40-80mp constant gusts, insanely windy as if it were hurricane winds. I know, I live in Kihei. This pushed the fire all too easily with the dried-out wooden structures around. Lahaina should be rebuilt with underground electrical lines.

Thoughts and prayers arenโt enough anymore. These people need food, water, building supplies and most importantly people on the ground providing any help they can. Iโm so saddened by this news.
