You're fucking awesome. They should let my German professor go and just play your videos in class. She taught us Präteritum und Perfekt simultaneously but never made any distinction between the two, so we were inadvertently conjugating these awful frankenstein creations. Love it, besonders den zweiten Teil, in dem du über normale Verben erklärt hast, die manchmal das Präteritum benutzen. Every once in a while höre ich ein neues Verb, das man im Präteritum benutzt, und hab' noch nie so gehört.
It just comes down to exposure and seeing and hearing what people actually use. :)

Ganz deutchlich Ania! I would also add that Germans typically use the simple past in the expression "Es gab" rather than perfect "Es hat gegeben." Finally, someone has made a video on this topic that has puzzled me for years. Vielen, vielen dank!
