Thanks for checking out my review of Shirley, which is currently available on Netflix with audio description by Descriptive Video Works. While I did not have the names at the time, the writers are Beth Rand and Leslie Moni, and the narrator is Saundi Harrison-Cooksey. I wanted to make sure I got those names right, because this track is exceptional.
I’m a blind film critic and I love to talk about audio description, and film from my perspective, so please click like and subscribe!
Shirley follows a chunk of time in the life of Shirley Chisholm, who made history as the first black female elected to the House of Representatives, who then launched a Presidential campaign, where she became the first female candidate and black candidate to win electorates, even if she did not successfully secure the nomination. Her fascinating story is told here through Regina King, and directed by John Ridley. It is also likely the final performance from Lance Reddick.
