How Dental Floss is Made

Humans have been using string among other tools to dislodge food from their teeth for as long as string has been around. However, the idea of modern dental floss is only two centuries old. In 1819, Levi Spear Parmly of New Orleans published a book on oral health in which he described the first known iteration of the modern floss. Only within a century, his idea had become common dental practice and today floss can be found in most homes. But have you ever wondered how floss is made?

We wanted to see HOW IT IS MADE. Not 5 minutes of watching closeups of people flossing their teeth. I had to turn it off.

Pro tip. Use dental floss as sewing thread for repairs. It won't break.
