Honestly it just wasn’t “there” for me like I wanted it to be. I ignored the controversy when watching it but I struggled to connect with it as much as I really wanted to. I felt like it could have been so much better personally. Florence Pugh carried it on her back. I wish they’d have gave her more to do than look confused

I just saw it for the first time. It’s not a bad movie, not by any stretch of the imagination. But when you break it down, there’s really nothing special about it. This movie is an excellent example of style over substance. You can have the best DP, the best costume designers, and the best actors in the business. But that means nothing if you don’t have a strong story to balance all that out. It felt like Wilde was trying to create her own modernized take on “The Stepford Wives”, but neither her, nor anyone involved stopped to think about what it was that made that movie so great.

All the sexual scenes in the film put me off it but part where it shows what their life was like before the simulation. It made sense in a way, as the virtual world was Harrys characters dream world where he could get what he wanted from Florences character all the time, were in the real world she was too tired from the job she loved and would brush him off nicely.

Did they ever explain Peg being pregnant? Was the real-world Peg pregnant? If yes, do they just throw out the real-world baby and give the mother a SIM baby in Victory? And do they just simulate giving birth for the woman?
It seemed like they had some interesting ideas but went about them pretty half-assed (like Shelly killing Frank).

The whole "die in the simulation, die for real" thing is the most confusing aspect of this. Why is that even a feature? Wouldn't it make more sense for death NOT to be a factor in an idealized fantasy prison? Make it LITERALLY impossible for the women to escape, even via suicide? Or, y'know, murder their husbands? That feels like a pretty big oversight.

Funny story when I saw this movie:
My sister and I saw it, we didn't like it because of how needlessly complicated it was executed even though the twist was hella predictable.
Right as the movie ended, a woman who sat a few seats to our left looks right at us (theater was mostly empty and we were in the same row) and blurts out
"That was utter bullshit, I want my money back"
She was the best part of the movie tbh

I didn't think that he had to pay Frank to be there I think he had to go back to the real world to work like a basic nine to five job to keep their apartment and to take care of/store her body there. So that they could continue to "live" in Victory. And that's what he hated so much. Hence all of the locks on their door. I think he was just paying for them to have a storage place for their bodies while they spent the rest of their time in the VR.

I think one of the scariest things is that in the original script. Alice didn't even know Jack. He saw her at the hospital and picked her as his chosen wife.
