The best band in America. It's GREAT to hear the production and mixing being as good as their songs now. Something's definitely changed, here, as everything seems perfectly balanced now in the studio tracks. Absolutely brilliant song, as usual, but to hear the studio version doing justice to it is awesome to hear. I think the Twigs are the greatest songwriters alive right now (I don't say that lightly, but sincerely: I don't think enough people recognize that these guys are writing on a Lennon/McCartney level), but some of the studio recordings before just weren't doing a lot of the songs justice: this is definitely more like it. And their vocals have really matured into something truly special. Unlike a lot of bands who aim for a 60's/70's "sound", what differentiates the Twigs from those "acts" (a term I use intentionally) is that they're not simply using that "sound" to evoke nostalgia for an older era - but are using the unfortunately now-antiquated notions of MELODY and structure and bringing that to their own time and their own feelings. That's what distinguishes a "nostalgia" act from true artists. They're not taking people back - they're reminding people that real songwriting and melody shouldn't only be relegated to the past. That's what, in my estimation, not only makes these guys a great band, but practically elevates them to hero status in my book. I have a sneaking suspicion, based on this song (and "Peppermint Roses") that their next album is going to be pretty incredible. Keep writing, guys; ignore everything else - and listen to your instincts. You're doing something very, very special.
