Why am I here?
The scientific breakthroughs we are making today will shape tomorrow's world, but so many discoveries never make it beyond the academic journal.
Scientists and researchers play an essential role in leading discoveries out of the lab, but we are rarely taught how to actually do this. I want to see more scientists seize their innovation capability for good, become leaders in their field, and drive forward world-changing technologies to solve global problems.

Hydrogen hype or something we should be investing in more heavily? Let me know what you think!

Did anyone check if the stated capacity of that truck is indeed just 2000 kg ? It is a very low capacity for a truck that size.

This is good if the truck can return to a truck facility every night. Which can be done in the UK. You did address many of the hydrogen issues.

In all grids in the world there is extra capacity of electricity produced during certain time of the day. which can be used to electrolyze water

how much coal to burn so too split H2 from O? 1, 2, or 3 tons to produce enough hydrogen to refule?

That range is still a little short given the distance between filling stations

Well explained Doc! But BEV should focus on personal transportation and Hydrogen should focus on heavy transportation, shipping, aviation, and the military! America did not help win WW2 by taking half measures, America and the world needs to be all in on dealing with the climate crisis moving forward!

Thank you Dr Ben for a deep dive on the role of hydrogen in greening up freight transport. You can find more videos and hear from our Founder over on our channel.

Hydrogen seems to be the "second choice" fuel source due to its prohibitive cost. This in turn could create a chicken or the egg problem where nobody wants to invest in infrastructure for a fuel source few want to actually use. It's also worth noting that hydrogen prices might actually go UP over time as countries move to green hydrogen to meet their climate targets.

Blue and grey Hydrogen allow the Oil/Coal industry to pollute for hundreds of years to come... Put the containers on the rail have trucks for in town/city deliveries only. The trains can use off peak renewable electricity.

One place where hydrogen makes way more sense than just massive batteries is recreational boating, where you can take excess power generated from solar to electrolyze the water that you're floating on. If I had the money to make it happen I would 100% be building a sailing catamaran that utilizes the massive amount of space where solar panels can sit to do this. Toyota already has a electrolyzer/fuel cell product developed in conjunction with EODev that can be used for this (though their current model is an 80kw version, which would be far larger than what I would need for a 14m sailing cat) and is what they use onboard Energy Observer.

You can also design create a add on water to hydrogen gas using electricity for existing gasoline Diesel engines to save the old engines you can recapture some water through the exhaust pipe also capture water moisture from air also capture water from rain water also have diesel gasoline delivery trucks deliver water put water in the gasoline and diesel fuel tanks of vehicles no pollution no emissions clean engines inside done manifested cocreated now worldwide

Producing hydrogen is net energy loss, no matter how its produced.. more energy require to produce than what's in the H2

If we have TONS of energy to waste, hydrogen could be a good way to store and transport energy. But we don't. I think whole hydrogen thing is nonsense at this point. We'll need some breakthroughs to utilize hydrogen un practical way.
