"What's This Server For?
At the moment, this server is about reverse engineering a very specific but well-known growl used quite a bit by Skrillex back in the day. By that, I don't mean making a growl that sounds Skrillex-esque, but rather figuring out the different parameters of the original patch. The patch I'm talking about is the one used for the growls in
original-samples and
edited-samples.
Why's This a Thing?
Nobody really knows exactly how the sound was made. sure, there are tutorials out there that give results that sound similar to the original sound, but the techniques used in each tutorial vary a lot, often using plugins that were made way after 2010. It seems a lot of people want to know how it was actually done, so hopefully this discord will find out before the server dies of inactivity."

0:14 Here, Skrillex seems to imply that he's processing in 3 sine waves in Parallel. He says he "distorts anywhere between 50 to 75% on BOTH of them." and then he has a 3rd one for the root notes (probably a sub) At 0:33, he says he runs a "completely separate channel with a sine wave." FM8 alone does not have a way to process effects in parallel, so My guess is he makes an audio effect rack in Ableton with 3 chains or he uses 3 separate channels.
My other theory is he's talking about the natural distortion you get by feeding operators into other operators, and he's not processing them in parallel. At 0:30 he says "but even then I'll add distortions on top of that."

Basic principle to old Skrillex growls- limit harmonics going into distortion and compression effects either by additive means(from wave or fm) or subtractive means(filtering- band pass).
