Amazes me how many people miss the message of this video. The whole point is to contrast hetero promiscuity with gay monogamy. Homophobes who watch this will see all the girls stripping and go "fuck yeah!" and then all of a sudden there's two guys at an altar and they think "eww gross". But in reality the gay wedding is wholesome and admirable while the spring break scenes are disgusting and depraved. The latter is socially accepted while the former is often condemned even though it should be the exact opposite.

"We wanted to show just how ridiculous it is that spring break behavior is considered normal and gay marriage is insane when it's actually the opposite," said Schaffer. Samberg further stated that, upon viewing the music video, the song takes on another level of satire, illustrating that careless, "macho" young men that typically detest the idea of same-sex marriage, have no problem taking advantage of women while on spring break and "acting like animals," in stark contrast to the reality of same-sex marriage, which Samberg describes as "people who just want to be civilized and have rights and care for each other."
( taken for the song's wikipedia page, in case anyone wanted to know what this is supposed to represent )

this is gonna sound so incredibly stupid but seeing this video as a closeted 13 year old is what made me entertain the idea that i could possibly be gay . i hated myself and my sexuality so much that it was literally the first time i could stomach watching something with gay people portrayed in it - and then i watched it once, and twice, and again and again, it was just funny and catchy and so good. & i remember reading the comments and seeing people be supportive, and i felt so happy
, i also remember thinking âif andy samberg is on my side, i think i can do thisâ and i did. so thank u lonely island. this was a pivotal moment for me

it's been 8 years but to this day, "two kings walking hand in hand" is still the hardest line ever written
