Of all the great places you could have selected, why did you pick Miami-Dade County? The pay for the most part is low and cost of living high. Unless you have a very specific well paying vocation/trade or professional skills, Florida is a tough place to make a living. The people around you are neither helpful nor supportive. Because there is a scarcity of resources, people tend to be aggressive and cut throat. How did such a nice, laid back guy like you, leave Kansas and still managed to make ends meet in such a tough and competitive environment?
The state of Florida in general is largely dependent on services or agriculture. It generates most of its revenue through these industries. Spending by tourists and retired people contribute significantly, but it does not do much to help the working poor. For this reason most residents remain on constant survival mode. Short term its ok if you are just passing through for bigger and better things, but most definitely not acceptable for the long haul.
