Don’t know if this is right or not but my interpretation is that someone is probably trying to quit a addiction (alcoholism or drug abuse) because they promised somebody that they would do better and the song is describing what it was like after they stopped

I can't even really comprehend the full meaning of this song (not an english native speaker) but it touches me on such a deep yet unexplainable level that I just can't stop hearing it all day in a row and it gives me this strange feeling of melancholy and drive at the same time
