This song emerged after reading Andrea Wulf’s wonderful book the Invention of Nature about Alexander Von Humboldt. I became particularly interested in his idea that we are living at the bottom of an ocean of air. It’s a homage to clouds, the sky and to the atmosphere in general.

For a song called marvelous clouds, this actually feels very earthy and grounded. It’s almost as if instead of being up in the clouds in an ethereal dance, the interlocutor is melancholic about the beauty of the clouds and frustrated about their inability to reach them. It feels sort of sad and nostalgic.
